Students staged protest action
Nikol Aghbalyan Student Union of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutiun today staged a protest action in front of the RA government with the poster, "Do not deprive us of our grants!"
They protested against a November 17 decision of the RA Minister of Education and Science on annulling student allowances.
"The minister says the 5000 drams we receive cannot lessen our burden and will hence be forwarded to a special fund. This is an utter lie since the 60 000 drams (the grant for a year) could be a great help to socially vulnerable families," said protester Suren Semerjyan.
"Instead of increasing the student grant and encouraging us they have decided to annul it," said the protesters.
"Our struggle aims to restore our constitutional rights. They have no right to take our grants," said YSU student Karen.
The protesters handed a letter of protest to Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan with a request to interfere with the imitative.
