"The wave of protests during Serzh Sargsyan's pan-Armenian tour is false and based on emotions," said Republican Karen Avagyan during a press conference today with head of the 'Heritage" faction Stepan Safaryan.

"Most of the demonstrators haven't even read the Turkish-Armenian protocols. They are holding protests without awareness of the protocols," said Karen Avagyan, taking note of the fact that those who voiced their concerns are those who are speculating the issue for their own personal interests and the political party. On the contrary, Stepan Safaryan finds that the fair demand of the inheritors of the genocide survivors cannot be considered sentimentalism.

"If only the opposition was against the protocols, perhaps we would agree to that. But it is inadmissible to blame the inheritors of the genocide survivors for ignorance," said Safaryan.

The main topic of the debate at the "Hayeli" club was Turkish-Armenian relations and the opening of the border. Republican Karen Avagyan said that he was for normalization of relations without preconditions and then noted that there was no precondition in the pre-signed protocols in regard to genocide or the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution.

Recalling that their party was the first to demand the immediate release of all documents after the release of the "road map" in April, Safaryan said that the documents weren't released on purpose because that was in the interests of Turkey and Armenia.

"We shouldn't create a labyrinth for the people, hold phony discussions in 6 weeks and impose the viewpoints on the society," said Safaryan.

Safaryan also predicted that the RA authorities would sign the documents and the National Assembly would ratify them without taking into account the nation's upheaval. Karen Avagyan called Safaryan a fortune teller and said that there would come a day when Turkey would apologize to the Armenians. "The protocols are proof of that," said Avagyan.
