Precautionary measure to be changed?
Armenian National Congress youth wing representative Tigran Arakelyan will know whether he will be under arrest for two months tomorrow when Judge Aida Hovhannisyan comes out of the consultation room.
Today the Criminal Appeals Court examined the appeal filed by Tigran Arakelyan's advocate Varuhi Elbakyan in relation to the Kentron and Nork-Marash districts' first instance court's decision to keep Tigran under arrest.
The advocate demanded a change in the precautionary measure and did that with the petition for release. The court is in consultation and will announce its decision tomorrow.
Let us remind that Tigran Arakelyan is in critical condition after being diagnosed with convulsion of his left eye nerve. He was arrested on July 5 after a conflict between policemen and representatives of the ANC youth wing while spreading flyers for the July 1 Congress rally.
Tigran Arakelyan was charged with Article 258 of the Criminal Code (Hooliganism), but investigator Hrachya Sargsyan turned the charge more severe and re-qualified it with Part 2 of Article 316 (Dangerous assault against a state official). The charge under the new article foresees 5-10 years in prison.
