Leader of the New Times Party (NZhK) Aram Karapetian today issued a report on the deadly clashes of March 1-2, 2008.

Mr. Karapetian is convinced that on March 1, the police opened fire at peaceful demonstrators by the order of ex President Robert Kocharian.

"I don't understand when they say the police took the decision on the spot, when in reality, all decisions in Armenia are made by Robert Kocahrian and Serzh Sargsyan. They even decide the marriages in the ruling clique. Can an ordinary policeman give an order of shooting?" says Aram Karapetian.

The NZhK Leader is going to send his report to the PACE and Monitoring Committee.

"The parliamentary interim commission looking into the March 1-2 events simply confirmed the official hypothesis in its report," says Aram Karapetian.

"The authorities' statements that they did their best to make Levon Ter-Petrosian come to the Statue of Miasnikyan to conciliate the demonstrators are groundless. They needn't have sent the Catholicos to Ter-Petrosian's place. The authorities realized that if Levon Ter-Petrosian appeared on the spot and led the demonstrators to Liberty Square, they would have to quit power the following day."

Aram Karapetian thinks that the commission's report was drawn up in the presidential residence and Prosecutor's Office and later distributed to the commission members.

"They were forced to sign the report or to express a special opinion on it. It was a mere political decision," added Mr. Karapetian.
