That’s the threat
"Armenia is weak and leaves the impression of a weaker country abroad," says Director of the Armenian Center for Strategic and National Investigation Richard Kirakosian.
"This is a greater threat than the Madrid principles," said Kirakosian and expressed concerns that a weak Armenia cannot resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
According to Kirakosian, the OSCE Minsk Group failed in the process of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution in terms of not recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as an absolute party in the conflict, leading secret negotiations and increasing the danger of spreading false information.
Kirakosian takes note of the fact that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict cannot be resolved without Karabakh and that the interests of Armenia and Karabakh don't always coincide.
Kirakosian sees both pro-Armenian and pro-Azerbaijani points in the Madrid principles, but he considers them as a basis for negotiations and not a final document or outcome of the negotiations.
The presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan are not aiming too much for the meeting scheduled for October, but there is pressure from the Co-Chair countries because the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the last frozen conflict and the great powers want to settle it as soon as possible.
As for Turkish-Armenian relations, according to Richard Kirakosian, Turkey is under more pressure, but its position and actions aren't clear.
As for Serzh Sargsyan's response visit to Turkey, the Director of the Armenian Center for Strategic and National Investigation is sure that Serzh Sargsyan will go to Turkey.
How then do you state that Turkey doesn't know what to do when the Turkish Foreign Minister Davudoghlu announced that the Turkish-Armenian border will not be open until the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict? In response, Kirakosian said that he doesn't have the answer to that and that the Turkish President and Prime Minister are simply putting on a show, which will end in October when things clear up.
Let us remind that Aliyev and Sargsyan will meet in October and the Turkey-Armenia game will be held in the same month.
"Azerbaijan is not frank in the peace process and is waiting to reinforce its military," said Director of the Armenian Center for Strategic and National Investigations. Richard Kirakosian called Azerbaijan's military reinforcement as the "world's bad dream" and added that the militarization is the reason why he believes that Aliyev is not sincere in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and that is a threat to the entire region.
