Will Khachatur Sukiasian surrender?
Armenian MP Khachatur Sukiasian who has been in search since last March is likely to turn himself in to law enforcement agencies by July 31.
Sukiasian's Advocate Ara Zakarian neither denied nor accepted his client's surrender. He didn't mention any date either.
"As an advocate I can neither confirm nor refute the rumours. I don't even know which variant is the wisest at the moment. Nor can I advise him to surrender or stay in hiding. It is upon Khachatur Sukiasian to make a decision. But before making a final decision one should take into consideration all circumstances."
Remind that the pre-trial body had filed charges against Khachatur Sukiasian under Article 225 (part 1) of the Criminal Code (organization of mass disorders).
"We have motioned the pre-trial body to review the restraint - to change the detention by something else. We have also submitted grounded facts and cited PACE Resolution 1677 which demands to choose some other restraint against a detainee before the start of the trial. We also rely on court decisions returned during the trials of March 1 detainees who were charged under the same Article [225] and sentenced to five years of prison. Even if Khachatur Sukiasian returns and is tried I don't think the sentence term will surpass five years. He will be freed under the general pardon," says the Advocate.
"Are you sure of it?"
In reply to A1+ Mr. Zakarian said: "Surely, not. I can have no guarantees for Khachatur Sukiasian is sued for his political stance."
