Political prisoners spoke
The political prisoners released by amnesty made their speeches today at the Matenadaran. They were all hugging and congratulating each other on their release.
In his speech, liberation soldier from Gyumri Ashot Zakaryan stated that the movement is a national-liberation struggle and it is not a struggle for power, but liberation of the people. He believes that their amnesty was not the result of pressure from the Council of Europe or forgiveness on the part of the Armenian authorities, but a small victory of the people who have been part of the long-running struggle.
Ashot Zakaryan mentioned that the CE doesn't care about the situation in a small country like Armenia and that the struggle must continue as long as there are still political prisoners.
Petros Makeyan also made a speech in which he remarked that the darkest page in the struggle were the 10 murders on March 1. He expressed condolence to the families, relatives and participants of the movement in general on behalf of the political prisoners. Makeyan also believes that amnesty was not the forgiveness of the authorities.
"The authorities who ruled the country during the events of October 27, March 1 and who have committed many murders can never show good will," said Makeyan.
David Matevosyan thanked the participants of the struggle and mentioned that he was taking the fact that there are still political prisoners very hard.
The rally continues.
