Deputy chief of the "Yerevan-Kentron" penitentiary is charged with abuse of power, as reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's office.

The Prosecutor General's office has confirmed the accusatory conclusion and the criminal case has been sent to court.

The criminal case brought up against A. Aghababyan, who was sentenced for assassination attempt and was charged with breaking from prison on April 1, 2009 from the "Yerevan-Kentron" penitentiary, showed that deputy chief of the same penitentiary A. Muradyan had abused his power and had committed an act stated in Article 309 of the RA Criminal Code.

Based on evidence from preliminary inquiry, A. Muradyan violated Article 24 of the RA law on "Keeping prisoners" and the demands of the 11th chapter of the charter for penitentiaries and instructional institutions, cross the limits of his authorizations and temporarily brought prisoner at the "Yerevan-Kentron" penitentiary Arshak Aghababyan out of his cell and engaged him in work of economic character at the penitentiary without Aghababyan's written consent and the written decision of the chief of the penitentiary. On April 1, 2009 at 2:30 Aghababyan was once again taken out of his cell and was involved in transferring cargo for the penitentiary to the storage room without supervision. The prisoner took advantege of the lack of supervison, broke out of prison and headed towards Nalbandyan Street.

Based on evidence, Muradyan is charged with Part 1 of Article 309 of the RA Criminal Code. The criminal case has been sent to the Kentron-Nork Marash first instance court for investigation.
