Ahead of Georgia President Mikheil Saakashvili's arrival in Armenia, Mitq Analytical Center today staged a protest action near the President's residence.

The protesters tried to raise the main concerns of Javakhki Armenians in an attempt to champion their violated rights.

Hardly had the protest started when policemen began tearing off the posters placed in front of the presidential residence. "No one is allowed to post pickets or protests near the presidential residence. If you complain of anything, go to the Georgian Embassy."

Further on, when the protesters organised a small press conference in the street, the policemen came up and began forcing them off area. The police said the street was to be cleaned and watered before the Georgian President's arrival. They demanded that the protesters go down the street and continue their action there.

Eventually, the protesters were driven away from Baghramian Street.

The posters were written in English for Mikheil Saakashvili to read them easily. "Give the Armenian Language a state status in Javakhk," "Stop chases against national activists of Javakhk," "Recognise the rights of ethnic minorities in Javakhk," "Carry into life international duties assumed by you."

Mitq Analytical Center is going to return to the presidential residence at 5.00 to continue the protest during the joint press conference of the Presidents of Armenia and Georgia.
