Hakob Hakobyan: “I am not offended by anyone”
"My client is being persecuted for self-sacrifice and expressing his personal views," said advocate Melanya Arustamyan today during her 45-page speech at the Kentron and Nork-Marash districts' first instance court in defense of NA Deputy Hakob Hakobyan who is charged with the case of March 1.
Arustamyan went on to say: "If the court believes the testimony of eyewitness Lavrent Gasparyan, who was throwing rocks and stealing stores and doesn't believe my client who did everything to ease the tension on March 1, what else can the defendant's side do?"
Presenting all the materials and the entire process, Arustamyan also underscored that her client's charge based on Part 1, Article 225 of the Criminal Code is not proven, adding that he must be acknowledged innocent and justified.
"With that said, I petition the court to reach a verdict of justification," she said.
Hakob Hakobyan also made a defense speech and started with the years of the Karabakh war until today and the 2008 presidential elections. He underscored that what happened on March 1 had nothing to do with him and that it was all planned.
He also expressed joy that the RA First President Levon Ter-Petrosyan did not break down and proved that the "men who fought in the war were not crazy revolutionaries, but heroes that went down in history."
"I am thankful to everyone for helping us go down in history and not be forgotten," said Hakobyan as he ended his speech.
In closing, Hakobyan said that he is not offended by anyone and that every person has his own destiny.
Hakobyan's verdict will be announced on June 22 at 10 a.m.
