200 advocates take on the case
Support A1+!Trials for criminal cases are simply a formality today. Many verdicts are reached before the trial even starts and the only thing left to do is to legalize the predetermined verdict. This is when advocates find themselves as actors and the situation is not in their hands," said today Hayk Alumyan adding that advocates are simply invited to be present at the trial and not participate.
"This is humiliating for us. Many advocates simply leave the courtroom and show that the trial can go on without them," underlined Alumyan. He and other fellow advocates have made a joint statement according to which 200 advocates have expressed the desire to take on the defense of their fellow advocates who have cases instigated against them. Let us mention that there are cases against advocates Artur Grigoryan, Diana Grigoryan, Ara Zakaryan, Mushegh Shushanyan for showing disrespect towards the court. The cases of these advocates began as a result of the March 1 trials.
"We will leave the courtroom if needed. Let them instigate cases against 200 advocates. In any case, we find that we are going to win in this "battle"," claimed Ara Zohrabyan, who rests assured by the 1st part of Article 343 of the Criminal Code, that is, disrespect towards the court is anticonstitutional. That is why advocates are preparing to appeal to the Constitutional Court.
Aren't judges being biased by knowing that a case has been brought up against advocate Mushegh Shushanyan? Shahinyan had this to say to that:
"I am currently defending Grigor Voskerchyan and judge Gagik Poghosyan is threatening that he will take measures against me for disrespect. He knows very well that there is a case against me and he is using that to stop me from doing my job. He tries to call me to order several times without any reason and has applied sanction a couple of times already."
