"Thieves, robbers, bandits"-screamed former residents of central Yerevan who have become victims due to State needs and are out on the streets. Police officers didn't even let them approach the government building today.

"What did I do for being born in central Yerevan? What did I do for being born in this illegitimate country? They demand international genocide recognition when they are the ones committing genocide in the country," said resident Gohar Petrosyan who was offended by police actions.

"The robbing in the Kentron district began in 2002 under Robert Kocharyan and Yervand Zakharyan. Gagik Beglaryan promised us that he would compensate for the apartments, but they lied to us. They are making pledges again, but we don't believe them. Beglaryan was in the same committee that decided to beat us and throw us out of our homes. We must not let these authorities cheat us again," president of the "Defense of Property Rights" NGO Vachagan Hakboyan told "A1+".

In 2002, the authorities had told the former residents of Byuzandi 9 that the building to be constructed as a replacement was not going to be an apartment building. "They destroyed our building and now it is still an apartment building. My neighbor couldn't stand this and died. Now the authorities own that building," said resident Knarik Arakelyan. Some residents received 12,000 dollars as compensation for their three-bedroom apartments in the Kentron district, but they weren't even able to buy a one-bedroom apartment in the outskirts of Yerevan with that money. The people who are out on the streets assured "A1+", that people who have never even owned homes in Yerevan received up to 650,000 dollars compensation and name Artur Hovhannisyan as one of those people.
