Verdict delivered in empty courtroom
Yerevan's Criminal Court of Appeals today delivered the verdict on an appeal by Gagik Jhangirian's advocates.
The Appellate Court left а March 23 verdict of the Court of Kentron and Nork-Marash districts unchanged.
On March 23 the Court of Kentron and Nork-Marash found Gagik Jhnagirian guilty under Article 316 of Armenia's Criminal Code (violence against a government representative) and sentenced him to three years' imprisonment.
Jhangirian's advocates appealed the decision at a higher court demanding to reverse it and acquit the defendant.
Gagik Jhnagirian has been jailed since February 23, 2008. He was arrested after voicing support for Armenia's first President Levon Ter-Petrosian at Liberty Square on February 22.
To note, neither defendant Gagik Jhangirian nor Prosecutor Koryun Piloyan was seen at the court today. Jhangirian's relatives didn't show up as they had set up a boycott.
Only journalists were present at the courtroom with a citizen who hurled reproaches on the Court.
