Hovik Abrahamyan got furious
The HHK promoted the Party secretary Samvel Nikoyan for the position of the NA vice-speaker.
The Republican Party (HHK) today nominated Samvel Nikoyan to the position of the parliament's vice-speaker.
Samvel NIkoyan's candidature is supported by all parliamentary forces with the exception of the Heritage faction. The latter says the Armenian parliament doesn't adhere to its principles.
"Mr. Nikoyan is a kind-hearted and tolerant person. He has always upheld the honour of Shirak region. He is capable of honouring one's bread and salt," said member of the Orinats Yerkir Party (OYK) Hovhannes Margaryan.
Member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) Naira Zohrabyan says Mr. Nikoyan is a man of principle.
Heritage MP Larissa Alaverdyan advised treating the issue more seriously. "Mr. Nikoyan has to prove his adherence to principles during the first days of the office. The National Assembly lacks an unwavering adherence to its principles. Because of the NA's unscrupulousness our colleagues are jailed and MPs press buttons for absentees. Sometimes unknown people greet me in the National Assembly. I wonder who they are as I have never seen them before. They say they are deputies. "
Mrs. Alaverdyan's last sentence finally made NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan indignant.
"Good God! That's enough, Mrs. Alaverdyan. Do stop insulting people. If you want to say something, give names and don't beat about the bush. What do you mean by saying you don't know our deputies?"
The Heritage wondered whether after assuming the position of the NA vice-speaker Samvel Nikoyan will continue to chair the NA Ad-Hoc Inquiry Committee into the events of March 1-2, 2008.
Samvel Nikoyan said he will manage to combine the two jobs if he is elected.
The Republican Party today nominated Artak Davtyan for the position of Chairman of the NA Standing Commission on science, education, culture, youth and sports affairs.
The results of the voting will be reported later in the day.
