They cannot settle the issue on their own

"To restore confidence and support in foreign countries, Armenian authorities who had already lost their legitimacy during the post-election period, could do nothing but put their property on sale. But Armenia has neither oil nor minerals or natural resources. All we have is a small acre of land and the issue of the Armenian Genocide," Armenia's ex Deputy Prosecutor General Gagik Jhangiryan, sentenced to a four-year imprisonment, said to A1+.

He says the Genocide issue doesn't belong to the Republic of Armenia, hence, the present authorities cannot "settle" the issue on their own.

"The Armenian Diaspora should be involved in the settlement of the issue.  To gain the trust of their foreign partners, our leaders have decided to sell the Genocide issue and our victory in the Artsakh war," says Mr. Jhnagiryan and adds: "Our people spread worldwide will not let the authorities sell either the Genocide issue or the Karabakh victory, otherwise "What is the use of  5-6 thousand victims?"

Gagik Jhangiryan condemns the authorities' policy towards the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union.

"During the last ten years they have been trying to separate and split the Union into different groups but I do think that Yerkrapahs are united in their souls. I wish they stayed loyal to their oath," said Mr. Jhnagiryan.

I would like to have the Armenia Vazgen Sargsyan longed for. I would like to have the Armenia our boys and heroes died for."

Speaking of the upcoming mayoral election Mr. Jhnagiryan said: "Topping the voting list of the Armenian National Congress (HAK), Levon Ter-Petrosyan proved that the pan-national movement doesn't seek power, rather, it seeks to restore lawfulness and freedom in the country."

Gagik Jhangiryan drew some conclusions after watching the election campaign on TV. "Obviously, only the Congress enjoys public support no matter how hard they try to conceal it. The movement's efforts will surely be crowned with a victory as people have already elected Levon-Ter-Petrosyan. It will be ridiculous to lose to a district head (he meant Republican candidate Gagik Beglaryan) after the March 1 carnage, numerous political prisoners, hundreds of innocent convicts, etc. I am confident our people will make a right choice and trust the helm of the country to Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

Gagik Jhangiryan is serving his sentence in Yerevan-Centre Penitentiary Institution.
