"I met a 60-year-old lion's whelp"
"I don't expect you to do anything good for me I don't expect you to make a fair decision. God be with you!" Vardan Jhangiryan, the brother of Armenia's ex Deputy Prosecutor General said during today's court hearing. Vardan Jhangiryan made a brief speech because of his poor health state.
"Some 30-40 masked men treated us (Jhangiryan brothers) brutally on Argavand Street during our detention last February. Then we met stooges in the police sixth department and finally a 60-year-old lion cub who has no chances to become a lion. Can you imagine where we live?" said Jhangiryan.
Jhangiryan's advocate Lusine Sahakyan presented her speech in a written form taking into consideration her client's ill health. She asked the judge to acquit Vardan Jhangirayn at the same time motioning the court to bring to trial all those who had illegally detained the Jhangiryan brothers applying inadequate force against them.
Remind that ex Deputy Prosecutor General of Armenia Gagik Jhangiryan and his brother Vardan Jhangiryan were detained on February 23, 2008.
Gagik Jhangiryan was accused of illegally purchasing, selling, keeping or carrying weapons, ammunition and explosives, as well as application of force against a government representative
Vardan Jhangiryan is charged with violence a government representative.
The Prosecutor in the case, Koryun Piloyan had demanded the court to sentence Vardan Jhangiryan to six years of prison with a five-year probation period.
The verdict will be returned on March 31.
