They’re always on the streets
The elections for Yerevan city council to be held on May 31 will be no different than the previous elections. The pro-government candidate will win and the authorities will once again draw the figures they need," told "A1+" leader of the New Times political party Aram Karapetyan.
The party is not going it alone or joining any other party in the elections. It is preparing to make a statement on why it is not participating in the elections on May 31 and what it will do during the election campaign. Karapetyan is rest assured that all pro-government forces will work separately for their candidate, but in the end "Beglaryan will win".
Karapetyan doesn't think that the elections for city council will be the continuation of the presidential elections. According to him, the authorities are trying to prevent the extraordinary parliamentary elections.
"What we need today are new state elections. It is obvious that Serzh Sargsyan will not take that step because he will lose. The authorities will not hold special parliamentary elections either. That is why they turned the city council elections into state elections."
Aram Karapetyan says that there will be no evident falsifications, assaults or beatings during the May 31 elections. He also believes that the people can't do anything to stop the authorities from announcing the victory of their candidate during the electoral process.
"The opposition never wins through elections in Armenia. The people will do what they have to do after the elections by going out to the streets. It is very important to see whether the opposition leaders will be ready for the scenario."
What will the New Times party do after the elections? Will it go out to the streets? In response to that, Karapetyan said:
"We are always on the streets with the people."
Aram Karapetyan advises to follow-up on the events taking place in Georgia in the coming weeks because he is certain that they will have an impact on Armenia.
