Vazgen was sacred
"Today is a celebration. Vazgen turned 50 years old. Throughout his life he proved that it is worth living, serving and even dying for the homeland," said the Sparapet's younger brother Armen Sargsyan to a crowd of thousands gathered near the tombstone of Vazgen Sargsyan in Yerablur. His words were aimed at those who were crying, among them Vazgen's mother Greta Sargsyan.
Vazgen's family visited the Yerablur pantheon with members of the Armenian National Congress, Vazgen's followers, his combat friends and land defenders, relatives of dead soldiers, injured fighters and simply people who respect the memory of the Sparapet.
Aram Sargsyan wasn't present at Yerablur today because he had left for Nagorno-Karabakh Republic at the invitation of President Bako Sahakyan to take part in the events dedicated to Vazgen Sargsyan on the state level.
"Vazgen was an illuminator and just saying his name was enough to light up people's lives. I am very happy and proud to be Vazgen's brother. I am proud to be Vazgen's soldier. We wake up every morning remembering Vazgen and Vazgen's photographs are on the walls of our house. He was sacred for me-a strong, wonderful man," told "A1+" Vazgen Sargsyan's brother Armen.
Would Armenia be different if the bullet of the opponent had missed and if Vazgen was alive today?
"Of course, our country would have been the leading country in the Caucasus. Vazgen always used to say that we must be strong. If Vazgen were alive today, we would be among the great powers and other nations would take us seriously. I think that Vazgen's dream will become a reality. I myself will try to make it a reality," said Armen Sargsyan.
"Armenia would have flourished by now because Vazgen used to say that all Armenia needs is two years and it will even help Diaspora Armenians. But after ten years, the country is still in the same situation and has even started moving backwards," told "A1+" Greta Sargsyan.
She remembers how Vazgen used to say that the Armenian people have to live a good life and that no European nation could withstand the difficulties that the Armenian people have gone through.
Which camp would Vazgen be in if he were alive today? In response to that Greta Sargsyan said:
"Vazgen would be in his own camp with people like him. His camp was freedom and the "Miasnutyun" (Unity) alliance was formed as a need. He was not into politics and even forbid soldiers to join political parties."
"A1+" also talked with Vazgen's father Zaven Sargsyan who only said that things would be better off if Vazgen were alive.
