The "Heritage" did not praise the decision of the Republican Party to change the Mayor of Yerevan before the elections, as informed "A1+" press speaker of the "Heritage" party Hovsep Khurshudyan.

The Yerevan mayor elections are scheduled for May 31, but yesterday Serzh Sargsyan issued a decree removing Mayor Yervand Zakharyan and replacing him with Kentron district head Gagik Beglaryan, who is also the Republican candidate.

"We consider this as a conjuncture solution. We give a negative assessment and believe that this is the authorities' message to the public saying that the elections are going to be the same as always," said Hovsep Khurshudyan.

The "Prosperous Armenia" party-part of the governing coalition-is also planning to participate in the upcoming Yerevan mayor elections.

"The removal of the old mayor and appointment of the new one is the constitutional right of the president and we are not commenting on that," said press speaker of the party Baghdasar Mheryan.

Did the Republican Party want to show that its candidate is going to win any way? In response to that, Baghdasar Mheryan said:

"The change of the mayor now is not going to have an impact on our positions at all. We will participate in the elections with one candidate." The party, however, hasn't declared its candidate yet.
