SERZH SARGSYAN MEETS TURKISH PREMIER

In the evening of January 29 Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.


According to the President’s press service, the Armenian President and the Russian Premier appreciated the high level of strategic and partnership relations and the political dialogue between the two countries and noted that the frequent meetings provide an opportunity to maintain the high dynamics of cooperation.


The parties summed up the positive trends registered in the filed of economic cooperation in 2009, expressing confidence that the annual commodity turnover between the two countries, which is nearing $1 billion, creates a good basis for further success. During the meeting reference was made to a wide range of issues on the agenda of bilateral relations.


Later in the day Serzh Sargsyan met with the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The parties attached importance to the breakthrough registered in the Armenian-Turkish relations after a September 6 meeting, which continued on a ministerial level. President Sargsyan and Prime Minister Erdogan assessed as positive the results of their first meeting and instructed the Foreign Ministers of the two countries to take more efforts to advance bilateral relations.


Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Hans Rudolf Merz. The Presidents of the two countries emphasised the current high level of relations in bilateral format and within international organizations. President Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the support of the Swiss Government to the Republic of Armenia, and stressed the constant balanced position of Switzerland during the discussion of issues on Armenia within international organisations. During the meeting reference was made to overcoming the consequences of the world economic crisis and settlement of problems existing in the region.
