Support A1+!The 8th session of EU-Armenia Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee took place in Luxemburg. The Armenian intergovernmental delegation was headed by the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Vardan Oskanyan. Representatives of Ministry of Trade and Economic Development, Ministry of Finance and Economy and Ministry of Energy were involved in the delegation. Secretary of State for European Affairs of Portugal Mr. Manuel Lobo Antunes headed the session.
The parties mentioned that the RA President Robert Kocharyan’s visit in Brussels was essential for the continuation of Armenia-European Union political dialogue.
During the session the parties discussed the process of the implementation of Armenia-EU Action Plan of the EU's New Neighbourhood Policy, as well as issues related to the political, economic and energetic cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the conflict resolution issues, to the process of reforms carried out in Armenia, to the presidential elections and to the issues related to human rights. Vardan Oskanyan introduced the process of political and economic reforms, noting that Armenia was decisive to continue necessary reforms brining the political standards closer to the European level. He also mentioned that the Action Plan of the EU's New Neighbourhood Policy is a guide for the economic amendments in Armenia.
The European part stated that the progress and the results were evident. They were pleased to talk about the growth of the microeconomic index and the reforms in the judicial field. Pointing that Armenia gradually and sustainable was coming closer to Europe, Secretary of State for European Affairs of Portugal Mr. Manuel Lobo Antunes ensured that EU was willing to continue supporting Armenia. He underlined that the EU anticipated braver steps, pointing out the role of mass media in the pre-election period.
Then they discussed the programs aimed at the reduction of poverty in Armenia, collaboration in economic and energetic fields.
The EU-Armenia Cooperation session was followed by a press conference, with the participation of the heads of Armenian, Georgian and Azerbaijani delegations and EU leadership.
