KOCHARYAN, MARGARYAN HOST SCHEFFER

President Kocharyan received Friday NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, who makes a visit to Yerevan as part of his regional tour.

Armenian president stressed Armenia’s readiness to deepen its relations with NATO. He is sure the visit of the organization top official will give an impetus for Armenia-NATO cooperation further development.

Scheffer, in turn, estimated positively Armenia-NATO relationship.

Karabakh conflict settlement was among the issues discussed at the meeting. Kocharyan presented Armenian side’s approaches in details.

The NATO official was received also by Armenian PM Andranik Margaryan. Talking to the high-ranking guest, Armenia premier voiced regret at the fact that official Baku remains adamant in rejecting all steps directed toward establishing and strengthening mutual respect. As an example of that, Margaryan pointed out the NATO exercises was to be held in Baku, but canceled because of uncompromising stance taken by Azeri side on Armenian participation.
