SWITZERLAND VO CANTON RECOGNISED THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

Official

On September 23 Switzerland’ Vo canton recognised the Armenian Genocide. The Great Council of the Cantonal Parliament voted for the postulate bill submitted by Massimo Sandri by 74 pros, 64 cons and 9 refrains, which gives instructions to the State Council – Canton Government to officially recognise the Armenian Genocide in 1915.

It is symbolic that the decision was made in Lausanne, where in 1923 under the treaty between the Allies and Turkey “Armenia was removed from the map”.

It’s now time that Vo Canton recognises the Armenian tragedy by a solemn act, the document says.

In Switzerland the Armenian Genocide was officially recognised in 1998 by Geneva’ Great Council and in 2001 by the Government of the same Canton.
