WAS IT REVENGE?

Politics

On February 6 Armenia’s parliamentary factions discussed the murder of deputy chief of the police Gevorg Mheryan gunned down at the entrance of his apartment late Tuesday.

An opinion has been shaped in our society that problems can be settled through guns and bloodshed. But this is a most sorrowful phenomenon,” the Heritage Party said during today’s briefing.

NA forces are unanimous that the murder of the deputy chief of the police will have its stigma on public opinion and instill distrust among Armenians. They didn’t exclude the version of a revenge.

NA Deputy Speaker, ARF Dashnaktsutyun member Hrair Karapetyan enumerated the previous scandalous murders, including that of Shahen Hovasapyan, the head of the investigation department of the Tax Service, and Gagik Poghosyan, ex-head of the Tax Service.

“And what about October 27?” reminded A1+. “As far as I know, the trial of the case has ended, and a verdict has been announced,” answered Mr. Karapetyan.

In reply to reporters’ questions whether the series of these unrevealed crimes do not necessitate raising the issue of the prosecutor general’s resignation in the parliament, Mr. Karapetyan said, “Yes, if the chain continues at the same pace”. At the same time, he noted that the office of the prosecutor general had legislatively been deprived of a lot of functions regarding revelation of crimes. This aroused another question among the reporters: “How long are you going to lay the fault on others?”

“You sound as if I am responsible for the murder! Mheryan was killed two days ago, and I think our law-enforcers should be given time.”

“A top official has been shot dead. Let’s wait until they draw conclusions,” said the Leader of the Republican Party Galust Sahakyan.
