Will former Deputy Prosecutor General Gagik Jhangiryan be released and will his case be quashed? This is what Judge Zhora Vardanyan will decide in his consultation room until February 11.
Let us remind that Gagik Jhangiryan’s advocates Lusine Sahakyan and Yervand Varosyan presented mediations to the judge to quash the case and release Jhangiryan. But the mediations were either rejected or postponed.
Head of the 3rd department of the General Department for the Fight Against Organized Crime and witness of the defendant’s side Samvel Asatryan had to be prosecuted today, but he didn’t show up. Instead, he sent a notice to the court saying that he is on vacation for medical treatment.
Gagik Jhangiryan’s advocates demanded from the judge to arrest the witness, but accusing prosecutor Koryun Piloyan objected saying that there has to be a reason for that. This frustrated Gagik Jhangiryan who said that his advocates have always presented doctor’s note for his sick brother and that he demands the arrest of the witness.
Since Gagik Jhangiryan refused to testify today, the judge decided to discuss the previous mediations in his consultation room.
“We were surprised because this is not the stage for discussion of mediations. They had to be discussed immediately after they were presented,” said advocate Lusine Sahakyan adding that she has no expectations.
“I think this is part of the plan to show that they are trying to do something. But I’m really not hoping for anything because it was clear from the start that this criminal case had to be quashed.”
