OMBUDSMAN AWAITS PROSECUTOR’S REPLY
Support A1+!RA Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan sent a letter today to Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan referring to prisoner of the “Nubarashen” penitentiary Grigor Voskerchyan.
On January 23, 2009, the Ombudsman’s representatives met with prisoner Grigor Voskerchyan, who voiced his protest in relation to the issue that back on December 23, 2008, his attorney Stepan Voskanyan had presented a written note to the RA Prosecutor General on the occasion of the beating that Voskerchyan was subjected to in the penitentiary, but neither Voskerchyan nor his attorney have received a reply.
Taking into account the fact that according to article 180 of the RA Criminal Court Code, the letters regarding crimes must be discussed and solved immediately, while the legality of instigating a case and in the case of need to verify the bases, within 10 days of reception, guided by article 12 of the RA law on “Ombudsman”, Armen Hartutyunyan is asking the prosecutor to inform about his decision after the discussion of the note.
Let us remind that the RA Ministry of Justice received a notice yesterday according to which as a result of the examination of the beating against Grigor Voskerchyan, by the January 9 decree issued by the RA Minister of Justice Commander at the ministry Artur Yeghiazaryan has received a warning.
