WON’T RELEASE SMBAT AYVAZYAN
Support A1+!Press secretariat of the Cassation Court informed today that the decision to keep Smbat Ayvazyan in jail remains unchanged.
Smbat Ayvazyan refused to stand up for the judges yesterday. Judge Grisha Melik-Sargsyan decided to remove him from the courtroom and continue the trial.
The RA Appeals Court did not change the verdict reached by the Kentron and Nork-Marash district general jurisdiction court on November 19, 2008, according to which Smbat Ayvazyan was acknowledged guilty by the 4th section of article 235 of the RA Criminal Code (“illegal acquisition, selling, keeping, transferring or carrying of arms, ammunition or explosives”) and 1st section of article 316 (“assault against state official”). He was sentenced to two years in jail and received a 300,000 dram fine.
The protest was brought to the Appeals Court by Ayvazyan’s advocates L. Sahakyan and Y. Varosyan.
