FRIENDS AND RELATIVES OF THE ACCUSED DIDN'T ENTER THE COURTROOM
Support A1+!Family, friends and relatives of those accused of the “Case of the Seven” had gathered near the court building today before the trial began in the general jurisdiction court of Shengavit.
Not one of the relatives of the indicted entered the courtroom guided by the statement made by the Armenian National Congress. Instead, they gathered outside and held signs demanding “justice” from the court.
Let us recall that in its statement, the Congress warned people not to enter the courtroom because the high-ranking police officers were planning a provocation, which would give Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan the opportunity to hold the trial behind closed doors.
All members of the congress remained outside and controlled the entrance of the court surrounded by red-capped police officers. Melissa Brown, wife of former Foreign Minister of Armenia Alexander Arzumanyan, told “A1+” that a number of men dressed in civil uniforms had decided to enter the courtroom. We also witnessed an attempt when a young man tried to enter the courtroom, but it turned out that his name was not on the list of the police officers and he was forced to leave. When we asked him if he was a relative of one of the accused, he pushed us aside and left.
There was an unprecedented high number of police offers near the building causing traffic on Arshakunyats Street.
Those gathered outside had split in groups-some were near the entrance, while others were near the side entrance where the cars of the defendants had to pass.
News of postponement of the trial spread quickly among the people and they gathered near the side entrance from where a couple of defendants were taken.
