YEAR-END STATEMENT OF THE ARMENIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS
“Dear fellow Armenians,
The year 2008 is drawing to an end. It was a year of falsified presidential elections, violence perpetrated by the bandit administration, mass political persecutions, cynicism, massacres of peaceful demonstrators on March 1 and ongoing infringements of freedom and human rights. However, this is not the core of 2008 and it will not be viewed as yet another brick added to the indestructible boulder of Armenian history.
The year 2008 will not be another brick; rather, it will cap and embellish the portal of our history. It was a year of dynamics in the political arena, rich content, diffusion, heroism and one of the most unique years in our history and biographies for most of us. This year was made up by and will always be defined by the unbreakable struggle of the pan-Armenian movement, the perseverance and stability that crossed the borderline of unreliability, political development of the broadest masses, wisdom of the leaders of the movement, as well as the growth of the Armenian political and state mindset.
We have won. The Armenian people have psychologically freed themselves from the yoke after ten years of living under dictatorship, humiliation and insecurity that it doesn’t deserve. In a country of three million, a million took a breath of air in Freedom Square, even once. We are united for the final victory having democracy, freedom and the belief in living a dignified life in our country as the pivot. The rest-change of power and destruction of the bandit administration- is a matter of political technique.
Victory is gained at a high price. It is gained through sacrifices of tens of thousands of you, persecutions and sufferings of thousands, imprisonments of hundreds, as well as the heroic political prisoners and those under persecution. However, the more costly the victory is and the higher the number of “shareholders”, the higher the guarantee for durability and thus, the guarantee of a free and joyful life for the people.
Dear fellow Armenians,
Let us end the year with the sense of being the people who safeguard the continuation of Armenian history, overcome the obstacles for existence and shape one of the most important and crucial pages of our history.
The Armenian National Congress wishes you all a Happy New Year. We have no doubt that in 2009 the people of Armenia will live a dignified life under a legitimate administration and be rejoiced with a promising future.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
STRUGGLE UNTIL THE END…”
