“SHARPSHOOTER EXECUTED MY ORDER”

Politics

Today it became known whose order executed sharpshooters during the March 1 unrest in Yerevan. Today the NA ad hoc Committee looking into the tragic events of March 1-2 heard former Commander of the RA Police Troops Grigor Grigoryan who had ordered a sniper to shoot at the man killing serviceman Tigran Abgaryan.

According to Major-General Grigor Grigoryan the sniper was beside him on Leo Street all day long on March 1. After seeing the demonstrator shooting at Tigran, Grigoryan ordered to disarm the demonstrator. The sniper returned saying that he had wounded the demonstrator in the leg. Grigoryan assured the Committee that the sniper had shot only once.

Grigoryan also added that the demonstrators had -automatic machines on them. “But it is simply an opinion expressed by a warrior who concluded that shots were fired from automatic machines with the aim to frighten the police.”

Today the former Commander of the RA Police Troops made another sensational announcement. According to their sources the demonstrators had imported special weapons, Zaria, from Georgia.

In reply to A1+ whether the Committee had made inquiries from the Georgian Embassy or the Armenian border services whether such weapons could be imported to Armenia without permission, Nikoyan said they think it inexpedient to apply to the Embassy as the information is not verified.

According to Grigor Grigoryan the ralliers didn’t act spontaneously as they slipped into the backyards and appeared behind the policemen. This suggests that the mass disorders were well-planned and coordinated.

Note that Grigoryan had informed the Ad Hoc Committee that they had killed no demonstrator on March 1 while some demonstrators were shot dead in Yerevan streets.

Today’s sitting was attended by Leader of the New Times Party (NZhK) Aram Karapetyan who raised the urgency of inviting ex Chief of Police Hayk Harutyunyan to the Committee sittings.
