ANC PRESENTS ANOTHER DOCUMENT
Support A1+!It turned out today that the political coalition was the first to breach the order of Serzh Sargsyan to create a fact-finding group for the events of March 1 by appointing Gevorg Tovmasyan. Who is Gevorg Tovmasyan? The subsequent statement released by the Armenian National Congress clarified that question. Tovmasyan is the person whom RA Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan gave written instructions on March 7 for the March 1 case.
Aghvan Hovsepyan’s 8-point task assignment ends with the following lines underlining the important role of Gevorg Tovmasyan in the March 1 case:
“Deputy Head of the department of crimes against humans of the RA General Prosecution Gevorg Tovmasyan has authorization for judicial administration and direct control of the legality of preliminary investigation.”
In other words, the proxy of the prosecution on the March 1 case is now part of the “independent” fact-finding group.
“Tovmasyan’s political orientation is clear: his actions have been aimed at keeping illegal power, conceal crimes committed by the government on March 1 and now he is part of the fact-finding group,” said representative of the Armenian National Congress headquarters Davit Shahnazaryan who released the document revealing the activities of the governments in connection with the events of March 1.
Mr. Shahnazaryan has no objection against the tasks formed by the Prosecutor General, but he noted that the special investigative group concealed the events of March 1 rather than revealing them.
“The person who completed all of the tasks assigned by the Prosecutor General and was presented in the trials of the political prisoners has been nominated member of the fact-finding group. I have no doubt that this was planned beforehand,” said Mr. Shahnazaryan. “He is doing what the administration tells him to do so that he will impede the entire group’s activities. However, Serzh Sargsyan had set limits-members must not be party affiliates and should not be in favor of any ideology. The political coalition has sent somebody whom the fact-finding group was supposed to call and demand explanations,” said Shahnazaryan.
According to him, this goes to show once again the government’s attitude towards the fact-finding group.
David Shahnazaryan recalled that he would put an end to the activities of the Armenian National Congress representatives if there are no international experts in the group as promised. “We still have hopes. Hammarberg promised that he would provide the group with international experts.”
Shahnazaryan blames Serzh Sargsyan and the ruling political coalition for the absence of international experts in the fact-finding group to date.
