SERZH SARGSYAN IS IN THE “MEYDAN” WITH A BLUDGEON

Politics

“Levon Ter-Petrosyan didn’t come to the scene; we brought him there,” told “A1+” intellectual, popular artist Yervand Manaryan. He brought up a couple of examples to substantiate.

“I am an old man and don’t like to get out of the house often. But I don’t get any information by watching television. I just wanted to know what Levon Ter-Petrosyan had to say after a long silence. I went to the square, heard him and realized that he was right.”

Yervand Manaryan is certain that it is impossible to build a country without the opposition, yet at the same time he doubts that the administration knows very well about that. That is why, according to him, the administration is trying to form a false opposition or eradicate the real one.

“Artashes Geghamyan wanted to become the real opposition, but they “attacked” him. Then, they started working on him and it all ended,” says Manaryan.

Aren’t they working on Levon Ter-Petrosyan? “The administration understood that that won’t work with him .Ter-Petrosyan came and got down to business.”

According to Manaryan, not only intellectuals, but each citizen of Armenia must have a stance. He is more concerned not about the pro-government intellectuals, but those who keep silent.

Why did you join Ter-Petrosyan? In response to that, Mr. Manaryan said honestly:

“I’m scared that my children, grandchildren will blame me tomorrow for the current situation of the country and for being silent. I joined Ter-Petrosyan because I don’t want to leave my children with bad memories. This is a serious problem, but we don’t always pay attention to that. It’s a moral issue.”

Manaryan also considers the presence of political prisoners in the country as a moral issue. “Political prisoners are those who are in jail for all of us. Unfortunately, there are many among us who are indifferent towards the issue relating to political prisoners.”

Mr. Manaryan preferred to talk about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the liberated lands from the eyes of an Armenian and not from the political perspective.

“I don’t want to give back a piece of land of my historical homeland, especially when that was achieved at the price of blood.”

Yervand Manaryan is angry with the viewpoint that the national movement is fading away. “The movement can’t break down. It is not about Ter-Petrosyan as an individual. We are the movement, the people. Either we will move forward or stop. We have the potential to continue.

Mr. Manaryan fully agrees with Ter-Petrosyan decision to temporarily end the rallies. “Ter-Petrosyan gave the people the opportunity to understand what the administration is doing. The Iranians have a good saying: “In guyo, in meydan”, which means here’s your ball, here’s the bludgeon and here’s the field. Let’s see how you play.”

According to Yervand Manaryan, the “meydan” (field) is the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Serzh Sargsyan is in the “meydan” with a bludgeon.
