WIVES DEMAND HUSBANDS’ RELEASE/VIDEO/
Support A1+!Melissa Brown, wife of former Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Arzumanyan, was one of the wives of the political prisoners who held a protest today in front of the Government building. Brown expressed her disappointment in the current authorities, saying that they are keeping the people who have fought for the independent Armenia in jail.
“The political prisoners are the founders of this country just like my husband, but the criminals are in here [Government building]. We come here every day, demanding them to release our innocent husbands. These men shed their blood in Karabakh, struggled for democracy and now they are in jail,” told Brown to “A1+”.
Police officers formed a barricade between the women and the entrance of the Government building and did not let them take one step ahead. Despite the rainy weather, the women were screaming “Free, independent Armenia”, “Freedom for political prisoners” and “Fight, fight, til’ the end” with their wrists in the air. They had also brought the photos of their husbands, but not one of the police officers reacted to the protests.
Member of the Armenian National Movement Aram Manukyan was present at the protest. According to Manukyan, there are currently 72 political prisoners in Armenia.
“This is an ongoing struggle. Nothing has changed in the past month and even five months. The authorities haven’t done anything and continue to do nothing,” underlined Manukyan.
