SASUN MIKAYELYAN MARKS HIS BIRTHDAY IN JAIL

Politics

Armenian parliamentarian Sasun Mikayelyan detained in connection with the March 1 unrest will stay in jail for another two months, by January 8, 2009. The decision has been made by the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan's Kentron and Nork-Marash districts.

Meanwhile, Mikayelyan's fellow villagers, residents of Vanatur, staged a protest action in front of the court building. The action was attended by Karabakh war veteran, invalid Arshavir Bozinyan.

“Today is our commander's birthday. They deliberately extend Mikayelyan's detention. We have passed a long way to congratulate Sasun on his birthday but we are deprived of the opportunity,” said Bozinyan.

To remind, the investigative service had petitioned Judge Ruben Apinyan to extend Mikayelyan's detention for another two months as the case was large-scale and needed weighty deductions.

Sasun Mikayelyan is charged under Article 225 of the RoA Criminal Code (calls for public disorder and attempts of power usurpation).

Note that Sasun Mikayelyan became 51 years old today.
