JHANGIRYAN CONSIDERS DIPLOMA AS INVALID

The case of former Deputy Prosecutor General Gagik Jhangiryan started with Jhangiryan’s statement in which he recalled that he had heard the testimonies of the witnesses against him and his brother, which contradicted one another.

During today’s session, the court prosecuted former RA criminal investigation inspectors Karen Khachatryan and Robert Kalfajyan, who had participated in the arrest of Jhangiryan and his followers on the Argavand intersection on February 23. As a matter of fact, they hadn’t seen Jhangiryan on the day of the arrest.

Both affirmed that they arrested Jhangiryan’s followers Karen and Lyova without taking into account the fact that they didn’t have any weapons and didn’t show resistance.

Although it turned out in the courtroom that they had signed under the protocol during the preliminary investigation that they had arrested them for the weapons and attempt to resist.

They arrested Lyova Vardanyan, Karen Poghosyan and Vardan Jhangiryan with the suspicion of resistance, but they didn’t decide with what to arrest Gagik Jhangiryan,” said Gagik Jhangiryan ironically.

The accusing prosecutor Koryon Piloyan’s observation, according to which Lyova’s case wasn’t investigation made Gagik Jhangiryan angry:

“The detainer is the same operative group and the operation is headed by the same center. They are all completing the illegal commands.”

Then, even angrier, Jhangiryan turned to Koryun Piloyan and said: “You had to give an evaluation on the operations of these people and then charge Jhangiryan with violence. You have been prosecuting for 8 months and not only can you not give an evaluation on the police activities, but also the cases of Smbat Ayvazyan, Vardges Gaspar and the March 1 case. If you haven’t given an evaluation and haven’t substantiated that the police operations were legal, then what is the crime of Gagik Jhangiryan or Smbat Ayvazyan or Vardges Gaspar?”

Accusing prosecutor Koryun Piloyan did not like how Gagik Jhangiryan pronounced the names of Smbat Ayvazyan and Vardges Gaspar. In response to that Jhangiryan stated:

“They demand two and half years for Smbat Ayvazyan. Ayvazyan has done everything for Artsakh and Armenia. I consider the diploma given by Hovsep [Hovsep Sarkisyan is the accusing prosecutor for Smbat Ayvazyan’s case] as invalid. I gave it to him. You should be ashamed of yourself. I gave it to him with my broken arm and I did the wrong thing.”
