MINISTRY I HOME FOR DIASPORA ARMENIANS

Politics

Today Hranush Hakobyan told her first press conference after assuming the post of Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia.

When presenting the plans and objectives of the newly-formed ministry Mrs. Hakobyan noted that instead of sharp criticism they need public support as “the Armenia-Diaspora ties are so fragile that they can be severed even with a stone’s throw.”

The Ministry of Diaspora already cooperates with the Ministries of Healthcare, Education, Territorial Administration and the Union of Writers. The Ministry has signed a contract with the Minister of Healthcare Harutiun Kushkyan on extending equal medical aid to Diaspora Armenians. This will enable Diaspora Armenians to avoid extra expenses and they will feel at home in Armenia. Another key issue the Ministry is concerned with refers to the educational problems of Armenians living overseas. A chair of Cultural relations with the Armenian Diaspora will be opened in Yerevan State University. A series of conferences, competitions and festivals will be held in Armenia which will further promote to the Armenia-Diaspora relations.

“Eventually, the Ministry will house and present the interests of Diaspora Armenians,” stressed Mrs. Hakobyan.
