“MARCH 1 WAS NOT ADVANTAGEOUS FOR THE AUTHORITIES”

Politics

“Each citizen will agree that the events of March 1 and 2 had a dramatic impact on the Armenian leadership. We have already said that the events were not advantageous for the Armenian authorities. The opposition tries to lay the blame for the victims on the authorities. What an absurd idea!,” Speaker of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan said during today’s sitting of the NA ad hoc Commission looking into the March 1 occurrences.

Upon the initiative of the NA Speaker today the Commission members presented their activities and the obstacles they have encountered on their way. They also asked the NA Speaker to organise a meeting with Armenian high ranking officials and to invite all those who somehow participated in the March 1 unrest, in particular the first and second Presidents, Chief of RoA Police, opposition activists, etc. The total number of the invitees mounted to 19.

Hovik Abrahamyan underscored the commission’s activity in view of unveiling the objective reality.

“Everyone in the country, including the President, higher echelons, Government, Parliament and law-enforcement bodies, wants to elicit the truth. In this regard we are ready to consider any proposal. The role of the ad hoc commission has been and is still of great importance,” noted Mr. Abrahamyan.

It is due to mention that Armenia’s Ombudsman Armen Harutiunyan was present at today’s sitting and promised to attend all sittings on the March 1 events.
