“MARCH 1 WAS THE CONTINUATION OF OCTOBER 27”

Politics

“The terrorist act of October 27, 1999, still remains unveiled. The questions I had are still unanswered. The trial failed to dispel people’s suspicions,” says Leader of the Heritage faction Armen Martirosyan.

As for former deputy Prosecutor General Gagik Jhangiryan's statement that the criminal case separated from the hearing on October 27 was dismissed with rough breaches of criminal code, Armen Martirosyan said Jhangiryan had better expose the truth earlier. “Such cases are either dismissed or shifted to another domain in Armenia.”

Armen Martirosyan believes that while the situation remains unchanged in the country neither the October 27 nor the March 1 occurrences will be disclosed.

“The tragic events of March 1 once again showed that unpunished crimes give rise to new large-scale crimes. I think that March 1 is the continuation of October 27,” he said.

“It is not excluded that the events were ordered by outer forces but it is nearly impossible to prove it,” said ARF Dashnaktsutyun Leader Vahan Hovhannisyan.

Strangely though it may seem many Republicans declined to answer A1+'s questions. Even Hermine Naghdalyan who witnessed the terrorist act on October 27, 1999, avoided our questions saying that the grief is too deep to speak up.

“October 27 will always be remembered in the history as a tragic page which has aroused different debates and controversial theories among the public,” said Republican Armen Ashotyan who wasn't even known in political circles in 1999. As for Jhanghiryan's statement Ashotyan said: “I would take the statement objectively if it weren't made in the context of the recent home events. I think he had better introduce compelling evidence.”
