OMBUDSMAN WILL ADVOCATE HUMAN RIGHTS
Support A1+!Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Armen Harutiunyan has decided to be engaged in the fact-finding group to look into the events of March 1-2. Remind that the group was established by Presidential Decree last week.
The Ombudsman says when comparing the positive and negative sides of the group he sees progress as the positive ones prevail.
“As for my withdrawal from the group I do not think it will be favourable for public,” Armen Harutiunyan said at the “Hayeli” club today.
“I think the situation is not hopeless,” noted the Ombudsman.
Armen Harutiunyan also stressed that the group's report will be made public. “It is impossible to advocate human rights and democracy by avoiding responsibility.”
Armen Harutiunyan stated likely to participate in the group regardless of the opposition's decision though without the opposition the group will not be presented in a due framework.
With regard to the trials on the March 1 occurrences, the Ombudsman said: “I am convinced that Armenia will lose if some of the cases are forwarded to the European Court of Human Rights.”
