SEIZE THE MOMENT/VIDEO/

“The current Armenian authorities are putting the security of the Armenian people in jeopardy,” stated today leader of the “Republic” party Aram Sargsian whose speech mainly focused on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

He recalled the statements made by Armenia’s strategic allies Russia and the U.S. on settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and said:

“Each and every Armenian must be concerned about our independence, keeping what we have achieved and what the authorities are doing today is putting those achievements in jeopardy,” said Sargsian and called on the rally participants to seize the moment and stated that he only sees one way out:

“The country needs a new leadership. If the current leaders love this country, they should leave. This is our country and we will make it flourish,” stated Aram Sargsian.

The next speaker was host of the rally Aram Manukian who gave an interesting formulation: “The opposite of fighting is death and the entrance of the criminal into our homes.” He also announced that for the sake of our children we must fight until the final victory, that is, democracy.

After that, Armenian People’s Party leader Stepan Demirchian stepped up to the microphone. He mainly focused on the period after the March 1 events. He underlined that there is nothing being done to reveal the murders. Touching upon the statements made regarding the confidential hearings, he said:

”If the national security service were to work the same way before, it would be possible to prevent the events of October 27.”

The people reacted strongly to that. According to Demirchian, the authorities prove that they are unable to undertake reforms in the country and have adopted a new strategy, that is, to try to prove that the national movement is fading away. But today’s rally, according to Demirchian, goes to show the opposite.

Demirchian stated that the opposition’s victory will be guaranteed by the consistent struggle and not the instant impulses.

“I will tell you what’s unacceptable: it’s unacceptable to back down or get discouraged during the struggle for democracy,” concluded Stepan Demirchian.

Levon Ter-Petrosian is making his speech as we speak and a march will start afterwards.
