THEY BEAT HIM BEFORE THE RALLY
Support A1+!Youth opposition activist Tigran Arakelian was severely beaten three hours before the Armenian National Congress rally. Arakelian and his friend were passing out flyers today in front of the ANC main headquarters on Koryun Street. Two guys came up to them and asked them what they were doing. Tigran said that he was passing out flyers for the rally. The guys kept on walking and then came back and asked: “What did you say?” “What you heard,” replied Tigran and went on passing out the flyers.
It was at that moment when the second young man told Tigran to shut up and hit him. The two boys hit Tigran, threw him on the ground and started beating him with their feet. When they left, Tigran and his friend ran after them. At that moment, another young boy stopped Tigran and his friend from chasing the boys.
“You are hooligans,” said the Kentron police division worker by the name of Arthur. “The hooligans are the boys you released,” said Tigran. Tigran Arakelian told “A1+” that the police officer couldn’t prove that Tigran was the hooligan because there were 10-15 people there who could have testified that he was beaten for no reason. The police officer simply told Tigran to come to the division only if he had a complaint.
We found out from the ANC main headquarters that the ANC is going to file a report to the Kentron division regarding the beating. The marks could be seen on Tigran’s face and other parts of his body.
