TERRY DEVIS VOICES CONCERN

Politics

"I never mention the phrase political prisoner as I refer to it as a label,” Secretary General of the Council of Europe Terry Devis said in reply to A1+’s question whether there are political prisoners in Armenia.

“Actually, people have been imprisoned for a long time. Some of them haven’t even stood trial which is a rough breach of human rights,” said Terry Devis.

The CoE Secretary General points out that the reasons for the death of the March 1 victims are still unknown.

With regard to A1+’s question concerning the recently adopted amendments to the RoA Law TV and Radio that introduce a moratorium on issuing new broadcasting licenses until the planned digital switchover, scheduled to start by 2011, Terry Devis said: “I am really concerned over the amendments.”
