“BE CAREFUL WITH TERRORIST AUTHORITIES”
Support A1+!“Serzh Sargsyan has received a carte blanche to crush the opposition,” stated today Armenian National Congress coordinator Levon Zurabyan who bases his predictions on the recent initiatives taken by Serzh Sargsyan.
According to Zurabyan, Serzh Sargsyan is doing what the international community wanted the Armenian authorities to do many years ago, that is, meetings with the Turkish president, trilateral negotiations and possibilities for the Nagorno-Karabakh peace settlement. Levon Zurabyan underlines that Serzh Sargsyan is legitimizing the power that he seized without taking into account state interests.
During the press conference, Levon Zurabyan stated that the authorities want another clash with the society and believe that with that they will be able to crush the national movement. The ANC coordinator informed that, according to their information, on September 15 there were special people who had come to the rally to commit violent acts after which the police had to get everything back to order.
As Zurabyan puts it, the main reason for that was the fact that up until the Russian-Georgian war in the region, Armenia was the only member of the Council of Europe where human rights were violated, where there were 75 political prisoners, where innocent demonstrators were not allowed to organize rallies and the CE was keeping an eye on Armenia.
The situation has changed and now the focus is on violations of human rights as a result of the war between Russia and Georgia. That is why Armenia is not in the center of attention. In these conditions, as Levon Zurabyan stated, the Armenian National Congress must revise its strategy and make some changes, but it will do that after the Kentron community head elections. Until then, on September 26 Ararat Zurabyan will hold a meeting with Kentron community voters and it is possible to see first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan there as well. The rally which was scheduled to take place near the Matenadaran will take place at the avenue.
Thanks to the opposition, Yerevan is turning into a “festive” city. In response to that remark, Levon Zurabyan said: “It is also thanks to us that there is a lot of construction going on in the city. They start building something in the given area so that they will not have to allocate that area for holding rallies.” As far as the revision of strategy on holding rallies is concerned, Levon Zurabyan stated that they have to be careful with terrorist authorities so that they will not have to allocate areas for holding rallies. “Generally, you negotiate with terrorists so that they will not endanger the health of the hostages. That is our guiding principle,” said Zurabyan and informed that the struggle continues.
