KIRO MANOYAN ON INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ISSUES

Politics

Kiro Manoyan, Head of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun office of Hay Dat and Political Affairs, thinks that no progress will be made toward the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict before the Presidential Elections in Azerbaijan and the United States are over. He believes the sides will wish to continue the discussions in any case, as the negotiations will put an end to the militaristic statements of Azerbaijan. On its part, Armenia must prevent the militaristic statements of Azerbaijan and put international pressure on it, at the same time re-inhabiting the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.

As Kiro Manoyan believes, Armenian Presidential Elections had their say on the international rating of the country, which also weakened the country in regard to the Karabakh issue. However, Kiro Manoyan is convinced that the conflict will be positively solved.

Manoyan also discussed US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s pledges to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

”Barack Obama’s pledges to recognize the Armenian Genocide are more convincing, unlike those of the former candidates. He has recently reconfirmed the importance of recognizing the Genocide. Although it’s hard to guarantee anything in politics, unlike the former candidates, Obama states this not only as a presidential nominee but as a Senator as well.”

According to Manoyan, Turks had a meeting with Obama’s advisers. “They told the Turks they should have a second plan, because, once elected, Obama will recognize the Armenian Genocide,” Manoyan said. In his words, Obama will treat the settlement of the Karabakh conflict on fair principles.

Head of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun office of Hay Dat also noted that the US has not yet expressed its distinct attitude towards the new authorities of Armenia. “The United States has to show that it does not pose the issue of legitimacy of the Armenian authorities,” he noted.
