“WE HAVE LOST ON DIPLOMATIC LEVEL”

Politics

Today Republican Gagik Minassian and Member of the “Heritage” Party Larissa Alaverdian were hosted at the Hayeli Club to discuss the issue of Karabakh conflict settlement.

“No RA Parliament can endanger the Nagorno-Karabakh achievements of the past 20 years”, declared Gagik Minassian in reply to an “A1+” question if Serzh Sargssian had discussed the possible solutions to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict acceptable for the Republican Party.

Minassian also noted that confidentiality of negotiations on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict regulation does not allow the problem to be discussed in a party format, so the party did not confer over the issue.

But the document of the NKR conflict regulation that the co-chairs currently possess, is totally satisfying for Gagik Minassian. “It is quite pleasing that the NKR right to self-determination is defined in the document as reality”, Gagik Minassian says. However, Member of the “Heritage” Party Larissa Alaverdian contradicts him. To her point of view in foreign documents the NKR right to self-determination is recognized only in the territory of Azerbaijan. Neither does Ms. Alaverdian welcome the idea of holding a referendum in 15 years’ time since NKR was able to gain independence by most strict Soviet laws.

”Armenia has been losing on diplomatic and informational levels since 1995”, declares Larisa Alaverdian. But Gagik Minassian cannot agree with her statement. According to Ms. Alaverdian NKR conflict settlement is in the hands of some authority or group that decides when and why a certain step should be taken. Such was Raffi Hovhannissian’s project that was not even taken into the agenda for the authorities considered it wasn’t proper for the time being.

However, both the speakers had the same opinion on the current state of NKR: NKR has seriously developed and today it has a generation that has never lived under foreign rule. And even the international public has to reckon with it.

Gagik Minassian does not expect much from the upcoming meeting of the two Presidents as Azerbaijan is going to hold Presidential elections soon and the period is not far suitable for negotiations. “They will undertake a cognitive attitude”, says Minassian.
