RALLIES WILL CONTINUE AT ALL COSTS

Politics

“Ter-Petrossian’s supporters have extended over fifty notifications of rallies to the City Hall of Yerevan but all of them have been declined. We give the government a reasonable term /specified in the PACE resolution of April 17/ to sober up and shift the process onto a political path. If good sense does not prevail by the end of this term, we cannot rely on a government with “a lame” sense. We must fulfill our Constitutional right,” says Arman Musinian, Spokesman for first President Levon Ter-Petrossian.

Musinian also referred to the recent statement of Grisha Sarkisov, head of security guard of Robert Kocharian. According to the statement Sarkisov was not on the stage of the March 1 events, and had nothing to do with their organization and perpetration. He only guaranteed the security of Levon Ter-Petrossian.

“Twisting arms is not security. I would be much surprised if Sarkisov confessed he had participated in the clampdown on March 1. In fact, Grisha Sarkisov kept Levon Ter-Petrossian under home arrest and controlled access to his house. Therefore, the issue of his responsibility will be solved by an independent body investigating the disputed events,” Musinian says.

Musinian thinks the political situation in the country is rather tense. “This is resulted by the rigged election of February 19 and mass killings of March 1. The authorities continue applying repressive methods against the opposition but all their efforts fail.

Seven people were detained following the PACE resolution of April 17. Political persecutions still continue in the country. The first president endorses the EU and PACE recommendations as a ground for a dialogue while the authorities regard them as a precondition. Besides, no independent commission has been set up to investigate the occurrences of March 1. Neither have the authorities introduced amendments to the Law on meetings, demonstrations, rallies and marches. The judicial system is fully under control. No lawsuit has been instituted to reveal the murderers of the ten victims.

Musinian anticipates serious changes in the country only through an extraordinary election.

Asked why Ter-Petrossian was unable to win in the Constitutional Court Musinian said, “They main reason is that they raised arms against us.”

The spokesman for the first president said they didn’t run in the elections of district heads as they found the elections anti-constitutional. According to the RoA Constitution, all laws must comply with the Constitution within two years. Today Yerevan should have had an elected mayor. Erwand Zakharian is an illegitimate mayor. We are not going to participate in any non-constitutional event,” he concluded
