“I ACT ON NOBODY'S INSTRUCTIONS”

Politics

On May 6, during a live broadcast, RoA President’s Adviser Garnik Isagulian promised to phone Levon Zurabian on May 7. He said he wanted to arrange a dialogue between the opposition and the leadership. Isagulian added that they had met many times before the March 1 events. As promised, Isagulian rang up the representative of Levon Ter-Petrossian’s pre-election headquarters this morning.

Zurabian informed A1+ that since September 21 he had met Isagulian only once in a café. They didn’t even “have a word.”

“Today I reminded Isagulian of Armenia’s commitments to the European Union and the recommendations of the PACE resolution. We are ready to start a dialogue on the basis of these principles,” Zurabian said.

Isagulian says Zurabian has promised to phone back to arrange a meeting. “We have talked for half an hour. Don’t forget that we studied in the same form and besides we were coursemates,” said Zurabian.

Garnik Isagulian says that their meeting shouldn’t be viewed as a dialogue.

“We can meet wherever he wants. Generally, I think that such human intercourse is of great importance, let alone PACE resolutions and Armenia’s commitments. Don’t friends have a right to meet?” Garnik Isagulian said in astonishment.

“Nowadays we face a crisis of human relations. The country lacks normal relations which is a serious concern,” he says. “Nobody instructs me to meet my friends.”

Zurabian said that Isagulian’s allegations about their friendship are exaggerated. “We simply studied in the Faculty of Physics together.”
