ARTHUR BAGHDASARIAN MADE A STARTLING DISCOVERY

Today Armenia’s Prime Minister Serzh Sarkissian hosted Orinats Yerkir Party Leader, former presidential candidate Arthur Baghdasarian. Immediately after the meeting the parties signed a memorandum of political cooperation. Thus, the Orinats Yerkir Party will form a coalition government with the Prosperous Armenian (BHK) and Republican (HHK) parties. OYP Leader Arthur Baghdasarian will assume the post of the Secretary of the National Security Council at RA President.

To remind, Arthur Baghdasarian had voiced discontent with the election outcome. He didn't rule out that he might challenge the results at the Constitutional Court.

During today's meeting with reporters Baghdasarian said he had “made an startling discovery.”

“During the negotiations I made an important discovery. I saw readiness and determination on the part of the newly-elected president to make great changes in the country confronting with our pre-election programmes.”

“I would like to note that our decision is well-grounded and endorsed by the two political structures. I shake the Prime Minister’s hand of cooperation with dignity as we think that the cooperation will be favorable for the country,” said the OYP leader. The latter thanked Serzh Sarkissian for the post.

“I bear responsibility for the 300 000 civilians who voted for me. I came to this agreement for the sake of the interests of the country and our people, for the sake of Armenia's future well-being and reinforcement,” Arthur Baghdasrian said. He seems to have forgotten that the very 300 000 people wanted him to become the country's president. They saw him as Serzh Sarkissian's rival and not his partner.

To remind, former Speaker of the National Assembly Arthur Baghdasarian withdrew from the coalition in 2006.

To note, Serzh Sarkissian expressed hope that an agreement will be reached with ARF Dashnaktsutiun, as well. “I want the coalition to be four-sided,” he added.
