DEMONSTRATORS ARE DETERMINED

Politics

Liberty Square has been overcrowded since early morning though the rally is due at 3:00 p.m. A friendly atmosphere reigned at the Square all night through. People were signing, joking and leading a round dance. Even the cold weather didn't discourage the demonstrators. About six thousand people rallied at the Square at night.

“We are waiting for the state officials to answer our questions. The deadline expires at 3.00,” Hrant Bagratian, Armenia's former Prime Minister and Leader of the “Azatutiun” (Freedom) Party, told A1+.

He is confident that the authorities will answer their questions. “This is a popular protest and people's behaviour testifies to the scandalous conduct of the election,” Bagratian said.

Hrant Bagratian noted that part of the congratulations addressed to Serzh Sarkissian is faked up. For instance, Solano didn't congratulate Serzh Sarkissian, he only issued a statement.

According to Hrant Bagratian they all realise the seriousness and complication of the situation. Gradually, everyone, even the representatives of upper echelons, get astonished at the conduct and outcome of the election.

The vote re-counts show that the election was a sin and a shame. The authorities have to answer out questions. They linger to gain time. They think that the mob will calm down in a few days and give up struggle.

Hrant Bagratian thinks that the current situation is beneficial as “a 300-thousand-member rally in the city centre upsets the equilibrium, destabilizes the state apparatus and inspires distrust in the acting authorities.”
