ARFD NOMINATES VAHAN HOVHANNISSIAN

Today the ARFD Supreme Council nominated Vahan Hovhannissian for the presidential election. Armen Rustamian withdrew his candidacy before the secret ballot. 60 ARFD delegates voted for Vahan Hovhannissian, 16-for Armen Rustamian and 3-for both of them.

The audience burst out applauding on learning the results. Vahan Hovhannissian embraced with Armen Rustamian and expressed gratitude for the experience they shared together. Afterwards the ARFD members went up to Hovhannissian to extend congratulations on the nomination.

“The real struggle will begin soon,” Vahan Hovhannissian announced.

As to the primary in which the citizens could vote for one of the candidates, 53 % (149717 people) voted Vahan Hovhannisian and 47 % (132769 people) for Armen Rustamian.

“I’d like to thank all ARFD members for confidence. I am convinced that ARFD will succeed in the election. We have run the risk of being outvoted,” Vahan Hovhannissian addressed the presentees.

Vahan Hovhannissian noted that the ARFD will continue cooperation with the Republican Party (HHK) regardless of the election outcome. The HHK is a leading Armenian party. We cannot take Levon Ter-Petrossian’s model and meet with all forces except the Republicans. The efforts of distinguishing between black and white and stirring up hatred are inadmissible for the ARF Dashnaktsutiun.
